What is Wastewater?
Posted on by Angie Gabinetti
Let's take a step back to the basics and address the seemingly simple question of what exactly wastewater is.
It is important for everyone to know what wastewater is. Many might not think about wastewater’s role in their home until they experience a failing system, but it plays a crucial role in everyday life. Wastewater is basically any used water from sources including sinks, showers, laundry or toilets that goes down the drain. But where does it go? It unfortunately doesn’t simply disappear. Instead, it gets sent to treatment which is either onsite or offsite. An example of onsite is a traditional septic tank and of offsite would be a large, centralized treatment plant. Regardless of treatment method, it is important to recognize that wastewater is being treated.
Without wastewater treatment there would be increased environmental pollution, drinking water concerns and health risks. Since humans are the main source of wastewater, it is essential to understand its impact. Awareness of your own system helps to protect the environment but also increases the system's longevity and prevent the risks of failure. This awareness and commitment to understanding wastewater treatment aids in the protection of the environment and ensures a safer future.
