Four Seasonal Use Guidelines for the ECOPOD Advanced Wastewater Treatment Unit

Posted on

As we ease into the winter season it’s important to prepare onsite wastewater treatment systems serving seasonal use properties for the cooler weather ahead. If unused for long periods of time during colder months, Infiltrator advanced treatment units require special attention to ensure optimal performance when restarted.

As part of proper Operation and Maintenance to ensure system longevity, the guidelines below should be adhered to when an ECOPOD advanced wastewater treatment unit is not in use. The length of time the system is not used, as well as electrical requirements and frost presence, determine the actions required to safely store the ECOPOD:

System will not be used from one to three months - Electrical power is left on/No frost conditions:

  • The air pump should be left on with the system running as normal.

System will not be used for more than three months - Electrical power is left on/No frost conditions:

  • The air pump should be left on with the system running as normal.

OR

  • All material should be pumped from the tank
  • Tank should be refilled with clean water

System will not be used for more than three months - Electrical power is turned off/No frost conditions:

  • All material should be pumped from the tank
  • Tank should be refilled with clean water
  • The air pump should be turned off

System not in use - Electrical power is turned off/Frost conditions present:

  • All material should be pumped from the tank
  • The air pump should be turned off
  • If high groundwater is present at installation site; the tank should be filled with clean water
  • If no groundwater is present; the tank should be left empty

As a general rule the air pump should never be turned off for more than a few days without having all material pumped from the tank.

Please contact us for guidance if you have a condition that is not listed above.
